Sainsbury’s Deliciously Free From Iced Desserts

Earlier this year Sainsbury’s launched a brand new vegan product – dairy-free ice cream – and just in time for the British heat wave too! The new dessert developed by Sainsbury’s Innovation Lab…yes, they have an Innovation Lab…is milk-free, egg-free, wheat-free, gluten-free and soya-free.

Sainsbury’s have clearly been doing some social media listening as the soya-free news will be music to many vegans ears who have soy sensitivity.

Sainsbury's Deliciously Free From Iced Desserts

Sainsbury’s Deliciously Free From Iced Desserts come in three flavours; chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Mix them together and you’ll have a childhood favourite – Neapolitan! I may have got a little too excited when that was pointed out to me.

You’ll find that they have the same consistency as ice cream and are very creamy too. The team have spent a lot of time refining the recipe to make sure that it’s as similar as it can be to dairy ice cream and being honest, i wouldn’t have known that these Iced Desserts had no milk or egg in them.

Sainsbury's Deliciously Free From Iced Desserts

Sainsbury’s kindly invited me to their Freakshake Masterclass where we could use these surprisingly creamy iced desserts to make our very own Freakshakes. It was a test of our creativity, but i think that we each added our own personality into our creations.

The Sainsbury’s team had blenders at the ready and treats and decorations galore to help us get the perfect look. I chose to use the strawberry iced dessert (my favourite) which was blended with almond milk. If you would like to make it at home it was two parts iced dessert to one part milk. I went for a tropical theme with pineapple decorations, strawberries and of course an umbrella. They even helped us film our own video and what better topping to display on video than vegan whipped cream. Yum.

If you’d like to try Sainsbury’s Deliciously Free From Iced Desserts then you’ll find them unsurprisingly in Sainsbury’s retailing for £3.50 a tub. As we go into summer i can see myself getting through a tub or two.

This looked so delicious! I am yet to try the Sainsbury’s iced desserts. A freak shake recipe is on the cards though – these look amazing!

Absolutely! I have a feeling that a freakshake with a donut on top is the way to go.
