You will have noticed that the number of vegan events available in London and further afield is on the rise. We’ve got Vegan Life Live, Viva! Vegan Festivals, Vegfest, Vevolution and that’s just to name a few. If you’re contemplating on whether to go to one or not, then let me share 5 reasons why you should give one a go.
1. To discover new brands
As veganism grows so do the number of products. You can find vegan alternatives for almost anything now, including meats, cheeses, ravioli and more.
Visiting vegan fairs or events is a great way to discover emerging brands, some of which may not be in the supermarket yet. For example, at Vegan Life Live I discovered Loving Earth Chocolate, Soffle’s Pitta Chips, Norty Puds and more.
2. To learn about veganism
At the two vegan events that I’ve been to there has been speakers who’ve covered a range of subjects. For example cooking tips, animal activism, how to start a vegan business, how to spread the vegan message amongst other topics. It’s a great opportunity to learn and ask questions surrounded by people who are largely in the same situation as you.
3. To be inspired
When you go to these events you’ll see how passionate others are about cruelty-free living. It makes you realise that you’re not in it alone and many others feel just as you do. So do not fear, you’re not the only one answering the question “where do you get your protein from?” on a daily basis.
It’s also great to see how others are helping promote veganism in their community. At Vegan Life Live I spoke to the Humane League and signed up to be a local vegan ambassador in my area. This involves speaking to local businesses to see if they’re willing to create more vegan options on their menus amongst other activities. I’m looking forward to working more closely with the Humane League and I’ll share my experience with you as i get more involved. Let’s just say that I felt inspired talking to the team.
4. To meet new people
At these events you’re surrounded by likeminded people who believe in a sustainable and cruelty free lifestyle. It’s therefore easy to strike up conversation with the person that you’re sitting next to at lunch, or behind in the queue. Don’t be afraid to get chatting at these events, most people will be glad to share their story and give you recommendations.
5. To get freebies
Now it would be silly of me not to mention the freebies! I’m one of those people who likes to try before they buy. If you follow me on Instagram then you’ll notice that I quite often ask for people’s opinions on products before purchasing them. Why not use the community around you? However when you’re at a vegan fair/event the majority of the time there’ll be samples so you can have a little munch before laying down your dough.
You may also find that there are goodie bags for the first that arrive, so check that out before you go. It may be worth waking up that little bit earlier.
There you have it, 5 reasons why you should try a vegan event. Why not find out what vegan events are available around you? It’s a lot of fun, you’ll discover new brands and if your experience is anything like mine, you’ll eat your own weight in samples.
